Upon Leaving Student Teaching
As my journey as a student teacher comes to an end, I am experiencing an abundance of mixed emotions. In a fifteen-week span, I have not only solidified my love and passion for teaching but I have also grown and changed throughout this experience. Student teaching was an unforgettable journey that I will take with me through the rest of my teaching career.
It is extremely heartbreaking leaving P.S 76 because I feel like a part of the community now thanks to my cooperating teachers and to the other teachers in the school. Everyone in the school was warm and welcoming and offered me advice and wisdom from all different sides of teaching. I felt like I was part of the P.S. 76 family and it is very upsetting leaving. I will also really miss the students because they have taught me so much throughout this experience. They showed me what it really is like to be a teacher in an urban setting. I took the good with the bad and I rolled with the punches. My students taught me how to take on good days and bad. There is no way to teach this type of experience, you can only live and experience it.
Although I am leaving this Friday, Megan and I have promised our students that we will return to see how they are progressing throughout the year. We also promised the 5th graders that we would attend their winter band concert. They have been working extremely hard to this concert and we felt honored that they would want us there. We also deiced to attend the 1st graders dance performance during the spring semester. We truly have become part of the P. S 76 community and I hope to be this involved in my future as an educator. I hope to take everything that I have learned from my teachers, my students, and my experiences and use these experiences to become the best and most effective teacher I can be.
